Community racing at Queanbeyan is traditional on Victorian Derby Day - the big crowds that will gather locally still remember the first big win of Takeover Target in Melbourne that almost lifted the roof on the local Queanbeyan betting ring and sent the bookies scrambling. This Saturday sees nominations from far and wide in the region for the local races with the feature event, a class 5 over 1000m, attracting nominations from Canberra, Sapphire Coast, Delegate River, Young and Cowra as well as from the local track, with both Frank Cleary and Joe Cleary listing runners. The Kangaroo Rugby Leagues Football Club from Queanbeyan has taken over sponsorship of the day and Qracing welcomes Kangaroos members to their inaugural raceday. |
